More combinations in the Flower Garden including two very different grasses; a Neomarica and Eucomis brought out for the summer are blooming on the back deck; white Lilies are blooming on the Himalayan Slope; a "Woolly Blue Curls" is blooming under glass--see it and you will know how it got its name; and finally an unidentified gem Caroline Burgess collected in China three years ago is finally blooming in the Pit House--wow! On the left, Chenopodium giganteum with its new foliage a bright magenta, variegated Hop foliage--Humulus japonicus 'Variegatus'--in the center, a very dark-leaved Canna on the right, and just a few equally dark Phormium leaves in the bottom right.
The soft silvery blue-green leaves of a large mass of Plectranthus about to bloom.

Contrasting Grasses
The delicate bottlebrush-like flower heads of Hystrix patula glow in the sun in front of the coarser and taller Arundo donax.
The yellow stripes of Ctenanthe oppenheimiana 'Tricolor' (AGM) echo the yellow flowers of Impatiens 'Yellow in Patten' in the Rainbow Bed.

A bright blue Salvia with an exotic darker blue pattern on the lower lip--possibly the Mexican native, Salvia cacaliifolia.

Brought out from the Conservatory and blooming in a pot on the deck by the main house. A member of the Iridaceae family native to Brazil and known as the Walking Iris. N. caerulea has similar flowers with the three outer petals brilliant blue.
One of several species of Eucomis growing in pots and brought out for the summer. A member of the Hyacinthaceae family known as the Pineapple Flower for the tuft of leaf-like bracts on the top of the flower spike--like a Pineapple.

White Lilies on the Himalayan Slope
Lilium 'Roma' blooming with its upward facing white flowers among the Ligularia dentata foliage on the Himalayan Slope.
Native to California from Monterey south and known as Woolly Blue Curls--for its long curly stamens and woolly flower spikes--this member of the Lamiaceae family is blooming under glass.

Collected in China by Caroline Burgess three years ago, this fascinating gem is blooming in the Pit House--although it is yet to be identified.
